Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF)

Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) – another separatist group fighting for an independent Islamic state. Achieved a measure of peace with the Filipino government in 1996 resulting in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Founder of the group and governor of the region, Nur Misuari, has been jailed following a Nov ’01 uprising attempt. Parouk Hussin has governed the area since ’02.
